“2019 has felt like a year when we’ve all been asked to think about our own environmental impact.”

In 2019 Rob Tuley, like many others, began to seriously consider his environmental impact and investigated a renewable heating solution that would make him greener. Weighing up his options, Rob found that installing a ground source heat pump at his house in Leeds would make the biggest difference.

Speaking about his decision Rob said; “We’ve been making adjustments for the better in a few areas, and how we use and source our power was a natural focus. I’ve always assumed technology like ground source heat pumps to be uneconomic, so was pleasantly surprised to discover we could reduce our environmental footprint and save money over the long-term at the same time.”

“I spent some time researching online what a GSHP was, how it worked and so on. I found the information on the Ground Source Heat Pump Association site to be very helpful and so I short-listed suppliers from their members, which included Geo Green Power. They stood out with a decent online presence and had a domestic and commercial client base. They promptly came to survey the property, and from that visit we were left with an impression of experts providing honest advice, so when their quote was in-line with competing suppliers, they were our preferred choice.”

The Installation

Geo Green Power installed a 13kW Ground Source Heat Pump with a 6kW solar array and 100sqm of underfloor heating at Rob’s house. As Rob was concerned about the aesthetics of rooftops solar panels, Geo Green Power installed inline panels which are flush with the roofing tile, creating a flatter finish.

Although the installation took place in the harsh Yorkshire winter weather, Rob was impressed at the smooth installation process. He found that all the Geo Green Power engineers on site were polite and tidy, kept him up to date on progress and what was happening, and there was no disruption during the process.

The Savings

Two months after the ground source heat pump was installed Rob’s energy costs have approximately halved, with even further cost cuts expected. Rob’s installation is successfully reducing his environmental impact, saving approximately 9 tonnes of CO2 every year.

In Rob’s words, “It just works. Like all good heating systems should do!”
