Geo Green Power Supports Solar Powered Retailing in Rotheram
Trade World, Rotherham, is home to National Tyres, Al Murad, Easy Bathrooms, Angling Direct, Urban Burgers, The Gym Group, Halfords Autocentre and United Carpets. As landlord and manager of the site Litton Property Group had an opportunity to install a 225kW Solar PV scheme to provide a competitive electricity rate to their tenants and do their part in reducing emissions by over 84 tonnes of CO2 a year.
Asset Management Surveyor, Sophie Waite, explained: “After we installed our first solar scheme at our Retail Park in Sheffield, we saw that there was huge potential for some of our other sites; and Trade World was an obvious choice.
“It was an incredibly easy and straight forward process, as Geo Green Power supported us throughout, completing the necessary paperwork and ensuring that everything was done in time for the added bonus of qualifying for the Feed in Tariff (FIT) which ended April 2019.”
It was crucial that Trade World remained open for business throughout the install, so Geo Green Power positioned scaffolding and access to the roof to prevent any impact on customers visiting the units.
Litton Property Group are now looking at further opportunities. Generating solar energy and providing competitively priced electricity to tenants delivers an income stream and the reduction in emissions supports the company’s Corporate Social Responsibility strategy.
The installation at Trade World is generating over 187,000kWh of electricity every year, providing ample power for the nine retail units and exporting over 56,000kWh to the grid. Because this installation was completed before the FIT deadline Litton benefits from the Feed In Tariff and receives on average £3,200 a year.
