We had a great time at the East Midlands Chamber of Commerce Sustainability Summit at the University of Derby, which we attended as a joint sponsor alongside Auditel (UK Limited). It was a fantastically well attended event, and the team on our stand were kept busy with great conversations about solar PV, battery storage and other renewable technologies. It was a pleasure meeting so many environmental enthusiasts, networking with other like-minded individuals and showcasing Geo Green Power’s credentials.
A carefully curated conference agenda provided a great balance of real industry experience, research data, practical guidance and context around the sustainability challenge facing businesses. We were also introduced to undergraduate student, Ewan Johnson, who provided his views on how he would view potential employers in light of their sustainability plans and achievements.
Our involvement included Managing Director, James Cunningham, running a workshop session and joining the final panel discussion where he answered questions on how ESG strategies, both our own and our clients, were impacting our business.
Our solar PV workshop entitled ‘Is the sun still shining on solar?’, provided an overview of how the solar industry has matured and James spoke about solar panels’ continuous relevance and investment benefits. The session provided interested attendees the chance to enquire more about solar energy, reconsider any previous negative ideas and get a understanding of what a solar PV system on their roof might look like in terms of output and cost.
James was invited on stage alongside Julie Adams, Carbon, Cost and Procurement Consultant, Ewan Johnson, BA Business Management student & Head of Enactus Derby and Dr Polina Baranova, Associate Professor of Strategy and Sustainability, University of Derby. Closing questions explored how employers need to focus on meaningful and measurable action to attract talent in the future, the opportunity that currently exists for companies to get ahead of their competition through their ESG strategies and the impact that the new Government will have on the sustainability agenda.
We hope next year’s Sustainability Summit is as inspiring and successful!
