Electric car charger installation for homes in the UK
Geo Green Power provide high quality electric car charger installations to support home owners, property developers and landlords in the transition to zero-emissions vehicles.
For solar PV and battery storage customers, we integrate your EV charger into your energy system to charge from your solar energy and batteries, offering chargers such as GivEnergy and Tesla that link directly with your monitoring portal.
We currently recommend the MyEnergi Zappi due to its compatibility with the Octopus Intelligent Go tariff, which allows customers to charge their cars at 7p per unit at night from the UK’s most renewable energy supplier. We also offer commercial-scale charging systems through the likes of MyEnergi and Rolec to suit businesses in supporting their electrification goals.
Your install needs to meet all the OZEV requirements. Click the link to find out more: Approval process for EV chargepoint manufacturers – GOV.UK (www.gov.uk)
Benefits of installing EV charging points at your home
There are a number of benefits that come along with installing an EV charging point at your home:
Cost-effective
Once installed, vehicle chargers will charge automatically off-peak when energy is at its cheapest, meaning users can take advantage of the lower prices straight from their home. Charging your vehicle at home also allows you to take control of your own fuel costs, rather than public charging stations where the prices can fluctuate.
Convenience & time-saving
Through installing an EV charging point at home, users have more flexibility and time to charge their car during the day and night time. This would mean that motorists can start their day with a charged battery, saving them the time of finding a charging point on their journey.
Government grants
Government grants are available to support motorists in the funding of installing a home-based EV charging point. There are a number of eligibility requirements vehicle owners need to meet to receive the grant, click here for the full list.
House value
As more and more people take to the road in fully electric and plug-in hybrid models, home charging will continue to increase in popularity. Following a domestic EV charging point installation, it is likely that you will see an increase in the value of your property. This acts as a great dual investment for your property and your vehicle.
Who we work with
What are some potential issues that come with EV chargers?
Being sold a charger that is not suitable for your needs - for example, too many unnecessary features
Prior upgrade works are sometimes required in order to properly complete your install - not all installers will highlight these before you agree to go ahead
You must select and install the right equipment according to the regulations BS7671
Some chargers are not completely compatible with certain cars. For example, not all 22kw 3phase chargers can charge at the full rate for every EV
Types of electric vehicle chargers for home
Geo Green Power provide a range of EV charging systems:
MyEnergi Zappi 7kW
Tesla Wall Connector 7kW
GivEnergy 7.2kW
Rolec pedestals
There are no running costs as the device will only cost money once it starts charging a car. If you have solar PV on site, something we can also help you with, you have the ability to charge your car for free at certain points of the day when there is excess solar production.
A standard domestic charger, depending on the complexity of the installation, should cost between £1,100-£1,200 excl. VAT.

Reduce the cost of your EV charger installation with the OZEV grant
The OZEV grant has a few different forms, and is available for workplaces, landlords for their rented properties, and homeowners with no off-road parking requiring streetside EV charging systems.
Only homeowners with on-street parking can benefit from the OZEV grant, which will contribute up to £350 for an installation. It can also incentivise companies to install EV charge points for less as part of the EV infrastructure grant by heavily subsidising the initial cost of installing the chargers, which will help support fleets across the UK. As for the landlord grant, they won’t directly save money, though it may allow them to increase their rent payments. EV chargers are a desirable piece of equipment as we move towards electrification, meaning tenants are prepared to spend a little more.
The OZEV grant is likely to last for many years as the government pushes the move to ban petrol and diesel cars from being manufactured post-2025.
Are you eligible for the OZEV scheme?
To be eligible for the OZEV scheme, the following must apply to you:
A homeowner with no access to off-street parking
A landlord installing to a rented house
Any business installing EV charging, and amending car parking spaces to allow for electric vehicles
If eligible, apply through the government website after selecting the grant relevant to your requirements:

EV charging electricity tariffs
Most of the larger energy suppliers offer overnight rates for charging cars. Below are a selection of suppliers that offer overnight charging rates around 7p:
Octopus
E-On Next
Scottish Power
Our recommendation would be one of the above 3 suppliers, though we are not energy consultants and we always recommend customers doing their due diligence. We recommend looking at unit rates, exit fees, standing charges, and customer service, before choosing a supplier.
Regarding eligibility, it depends on the tariff. Tariffs like Intelligent Octopus Go require ‘smart chargers’, such as the MyEnergi Zappi or Ohme, whereas other tariffs aren’t as picky. It’s absolutely essential you check with the energy supplier that your car and charger are compatible before making the switch to avoid unnecessary fees.
The average unit rate in the UK is between 23p to 26p. So if you did 5,000 miles per annum with a EV that has a 60kWh battery, you would likely need to recharge every 10 days. The cost of a full charge would be around £15, so annually, the cost of charging would be around £550. This would be significantly less on a 7p tariff.
Pairing your EV charging system with solar panels
A huge benefit of pairing your EV charging system with solar panels is that you can essentially charge for free from your solar system.
The amount saved on energy bills and tariffs is entirely dependent on the circumstances of the individual. We would need to know their usage and situations, for example: Do they work from home? How often do they charge? What size PV system do they have?
