Bespoke Solar Energy Solutions for Automotive Dealerships

Geo Green Power has established itself as a leading renewable energy partner for the UK’s most prestigious automotive brands. We have successfully developed and installed bespoke solar panel installations for dealerships and service centres representing Toyota, BMW, Lexus, Porsche, Audi, MINI, Jaguar Land Rover, Volkswagen, Mercedes-Benz and Ford.

The shift within the motor industry is undeniable: forward-thinking franchise groups are moving away from the volatility of the National Grid to take direct control of their overheads. By integrating high-capacity solar arrays, these businesses are achieving three critical objectives:

  • Infrastructure Readiness: Creating a self-sustaining power supply to meet the massive energy demands of rapid EV charging.
  • Asset Appreciation: Significantly enhancing the commercial property value of showrooms and workshops.
  • Operational Resilience: Future-proofing against energy price spikes while demonstrating a measurable commitment to a low-carbon future.

Our experience with multi-franchise groups ensures that every installation is optimised for the specific high-energy operational needs of each modern dealership.

Types of Automotive businesses we work with include: Main Dealerships, Independent Used Car Sites, High-Volume Sales Centres, Large Service/Repair Workshops, Manufacturer Hubs, Vehicle Preparation Centres, and many more.

Our Solar Installation Process for Dealerships

When designing your solar PV system, our expert team evaluates several key factors:

  • The total available space for installing solar panels, whether that’s on the roof, ground-mounted or as a carport option.
  • Your current energy consumption patterns, including showroom power, service bay equipment and EV charging.
  • The potential for your energy usage to increase, particularly with the transition to EV charging.

Our design approach incorporates battery storage for resilience, backup power for critical systems, and the ability to export surplus energy for additional revenue. To ensure zero impact on the customer experience, we schedule installations around your operational needs, including deliveries and service hours, performing all necessary power-downs out of hours for a seamless transition.

Drive Your Dealership Toward Net Zero with Solar Carports

For many dealerships, the transition to Electric Vehicles puts an immense strain on their existing grid connections. Geo Green Power’s Solar Carports offer a game-changing solution by generating clean, onsite power specifically for your EV infrastructure. These dual-purpose canopies maximise your land use without losing a single parking bay. They allow you to scale your charging capabilities independently of the grid, reducing your “peak demand” charges and ensuring that every EV on your lot is truly powered by 100% renewable energy. By providing covered parking, they also provide protection for your stock from rain and sun.

Solar Costs for Car Dealerships

Every dealership’s solar PV project is unique, and the required investment will vary. The cost of your installation is influenced by factors such as the size of the system, the layout of the showroom or service block roofs, and specific installation requirements like the need for out-of-hours work or specialised access to avoid impacting customer parking.

If you are interested in finding out what you would need to spend to achieve a healthy return and significant energy security (especially for EV charging), we can provide a strong indication over the phone. We will then finalise a detailed proposal after conducting a thorough, on-site survey of your dealership premises.

Solar Incentives for UK Car Dealerships

Power Purchase Agreements (PPAs)

A Power Purchase Agreement allows you to install a solar PV system with no upfront capital investment. A third-party investor funds the system and sells you electricity at a lower rate than your current supplier.

Asset Finance

Spread the cost of your solar installation over time with asset finance, such as a lease or hire purchase agreement. This allows businesses to preserve working capital while still benefiting from reduced energy costs and potential tax efficiencies.

For firms in the legal, financial, and veterinary sectors, the transition to solar is supported by a range of financing options, high-value UK tax incentives and regional grants designed to improve cash flow and accelerate return on investment. Unlike public sector grants, business incentives often provide immediate tax relief on capital expenditure.

Allows the dealership to deduct 100% of the cost of the solar installation (as qualifying plant and machinery) from its taxable profits, up to a £1 million limit, in the year of purchase.

If the cost is over the AIA limit, companies can deduct 50% of the remaining expenditure in the first year.

This scheme allows the dealership to earn revenue by selling any surplus electricity generated by the solar panels back to the national grid via an SEG tariff from their energy supplier.

Rooftop solar panel installations on commercial property, including car dealerships, are exempt from business rates (Non-Domestic Rates) valuation until March 31, 2035, providing significant long-term savings on property taxes.

Car Dealership Solar FAQs

Yes. Major automotive brands are setting ambitious sustainability targets (e.g., CO2 reduction). Installing solar demonstrates a clear commitment to these goals, enhances your green brand image for conscientious customers, and helps meet corporate reporting requirements.
Professional installers aim for zero disruption. Work is carefully planned around your operating hours, and any essential power-downs (like commissioning) are typically scheduled out-of-hours or overnight to maintain continuous sales and service operations.
Yes. Dealerships can claim the Annual Investment Allowance (AIA) to deduct 100% of the cost from taxable profits in year one. You also benefit from the Smart Export Guarantee (SEG) for selling surplus power and an exemption from Business Rates on the installation until 2035.
A system can be sized to offset a significant portion of the charging load. Solar-generated electricity directly powers your chargers during the day, reducing operational costs and supporting your transition to Electric Vehicle (EV) sales and servicing.
Dealerships have high daytime energy use (lighting, showrooms, workshops), and operate 7 days a week leading to rapid cost savings. Payback periods are typically short, often 4 to 7 years, with a strong Return on Investment (ROI) expected to be 15% to 25% annually.
