Home solar panel installation costs
For homeowners seeking to reduce their energy costs, a solar PV system typically costs between £4,000 and £8,500 – although this can vary depending on the size of your property and the type of installation you are interested in. Installation costs are included in the overall project estimate, yet can also be broken down separately upon request.
“An average household pays for their solar panels within 5-8 years and can add in excess of 25% of the solar PV purchase value to their property.”

Geo Green Power will only install the highest quality solar PV Panels at your home while offering some of the best guarantees in the industry. But, thanks to our long-standing relationships with suppliers and manufacturers, we are also able to offer some of the most competitive rates on the market.
Types of solar panels for homes
At Geo Green Power, we opt for N-type monochrystalline panels for their market-leading efficiency and excellent value. These panels are available in three forms: all-black, black with silver cell lining, and black with silver frame. For residential installations, we typically offer all-black panels due to their superior aesthetics, ensuring they complement and preserve the appearance of our customers’ properties.
We exclusively provide Bloomberg Tier 1 panels, as they are manufactured by industry-leading companies renowned for their substantial financial backing and commitment to continuous improvement and quality. These panels typically come with a 30-year performance warranty and a 25-year product warranty, meeting our strict criteria for durability and reliability. Our selection includes top brands such as JA Solar, Jinko Solar, Canadian Solar, Q-Cells, REC, and Trina.

How many solar panels do I need for my home?
The number of solar panels needed for a property is determined by a number of factors. The house type, occupancy and number of bedrooms plays a key role in calculating how many panels are deemed necessary for a residential property. Other variables such as the heating system, air conditioning, EV chargers and whether an individual works from home can also influence the total amount of solar panels needed.
Below is a chart showing the number of solar panels required based on house type, bedrooms and electricity offset. The cost has also been estimated. Please note that the figures displayed in this chart are estimates.
House type | Number of bedrooms | Number of solar panels | Electricity offset | Cost (excluding batteries) |

Is my house suitable for solar panels?
With a huge variety of roof mounting systems it’s unlikely that your roof type would limit you from having solar PV, but it’s important to make sure your home meets certain conditions for it to be deemed suitable for the installation.
In most instances, you don’t need planning permission for home solar PV systems. However, if your property has a flat roof or is a listed building, planning permission is required. For properties with flat roofs, a frame needs to be installed so that solar panels can be fitted at an angle to improve their effectiveness.
If your property is situated in a shaded area, where there is a lack of sunlight, installing solar panels on the roof of your home may not be beneficial due to the lack of energy that will be generated. If you have room in a garden or paddock, you may be able to install a domestic ground mounted system.
Combine solar panels with a battery storage solution
Combining a battery storage solution with your solar PV system is an ideal way to enhance the benefits for your home by allowing you to store the energy generated by your panels. This allows you to effectively manage and control your energy usage. It also provides peace of mind, guaranteeing access to affordable, clean energy at all times, regardless of external factors or seasonal changes. Given that many homeowners see their energy needs increase during afternoons and evenings, having stored energy readily available is particularly advantageous.
Charge your EV from home with solar
Electric vehicle technology is changing all the time, particularly battery capacity, making it a more appealing option for drivers. With more of us switching to electric vehicles to reduce our carbon footprint, having the ability to charge your car at home, and using surplus solar energy for free motoring, via an electric vehicle charging point, is a great way of keeping your transportation cost-effective and emissions-free.
Installation time
It will usually only take Geo Green Power one day to complete your domestic solar panel installation, so you can begin producing solar power the very same day.
An installation team will consist of up to four technicians, one of which will be your site manager who will provide a point of contact for you during the installation process.
The team will include skilled roofers responsible for installing the solar PV panels, and experienced electricians who will handle the interior electrical work, including mounting and configuring the inverter.
who will install the solar PV panels, and electricians who will work inside and carry out the electrical work which includes mounting and configuring the inverter.
Warranty & maintenance
“At Geo Green Power, we provide support for all your post-installation needs.”
Warranty periods for solar panels and inverters can vary depending on the manufacturer and the specific product. Our solar panel installation services have a two-year warranty as standard across all our installation types.
Once your solar panels are installed, there’s very little maintenance required – aside from check-ups to ensure the system is working effectively. One of our trusted team will contact you 11 months after installation to ensure you are satisfied and offer a service appointment. During your service we will use a drone to check your panels and advise whether there is a requirement for cleaning.
You shouldn’t need to replace your panels or inverter for 25-30 years.
“We are here should you ever encounter a problem or have a question about your system. We will be in touch about servicing your system.”

Pairing your solar panels with battery storage
Solar battery storage is a key component in maximizing the efficiency of solar panels for residential energy generation. During daylight hours, solar panels capture and convert sunlight into electricity, with any excess energy stored in a solar battery for later use. This stored energy becomes a valuable resource, providing power after sunset or during cloudy periods, thereby ensuring a consistent energy supply without relying on the grid.
By combining solar panels with battery banks, users can optimize their energy consumption, reducing reliance on grid power and often achieving cost savings compared to exporting surplus energy. This integrated approach not only enhances energy efficiency but also contributes to substantial savings on electricity bills, making solar panels and batteries a compelling solution for sustainable and economical residential energy usage.
(Please note that the 30 years savings statistics are likely to have changed because inflation of electric unit prices was higher at the point of quoting).
Monitoring
Included in your installation you have access to an online monitoring system which provides real time data, metrics and reports, giving you full access and control of your system.
Your monitoring platform will keep you connected to your solar PV system, helping you establish better energy habits, making you aware of performance issues and inspiring you to explore more energy-saving upgrades.
With solar monitoring, you get the most from your system, ensuring optimal performance and empowering you to take control of your energy every day.
How will this benefit you?
Maximise your savings
At any moment, you can check exactly how much electricity your solar panels are generating, helping you plan energy usage when production is at its highest. Using your monitoring in this way helps you reduce your reliance on the grid and lower your energy bills. It will also enable you to track the return on your investment and pay back!
Battery, EV and grid integrations
If you have battery storage or EV chargers, your portal should also show you information about how these technologies are working together, allowing you to set-up your home energy system to make the most of preferential tariffs and solar energy generation.
See your environmental impact
Your app will report on the difference your system has made to the environment. Depending on the system installed, this could be shown as a carbon saving or an equivalent ‘off-set’ such as the number of trees planted.
Get ahead of problems
By accessing historical data, your monitoring system can alert you to any emerging issues such as shading or gradual panel degradation that may occur as your system ages. Your monitoring portal will also flag issues such as an inverter fault. Our dedicated Operations & Maintenance team is on hand to support with any system issues.

Domestic solar power FAQs
Do I need permission to install solar panels?
You don’t typically need planning permission for home solar PV systems, unless you have a flat roof or your property is a listed building or in a conservation area.
Does the UK Government give grants for solar panels?
Grants for solar are very few and far between because solar panels offer such a good return on investment. The financial benefits of solar PV are enough on their own to warrant the original cost and are therefore not seen as something that needs incentivising. There are currently no national grants available, but there may be a local authority scheme in place where you live. The best place to start is your local council’s website or helpline.
Can I move my solar panels to another house?
Yes, you could uninstall your solar PV system and reinstall it at a new house, but we wouldn’t advise that you do this. Your system will be adding value to the original property that will be lost if you move it, you will need to inform the DNO of the move and ask permission to reinstall and the cost involved to uninstall and reinstall your system would most likely be better invested in a new system for the other property.
When should you replace solar panels?
A long-term investment, residential solar panels have a 25-year guarantee and can continue generating electricity for up to 30 years or more.
Do I need to tell my electricity supplier about my solar panels?
Yes, if you install solar panels on your property then your electricity supplier will need to be notified. This is so they can measure your electricity usage correctly. You will also need permission from your DNO (District Network Operator).
Will solar panels cause damage to my roof?
Solar panels are typically mounted to a rail system, which is fixed to your roof. Your solar PV system is specifically designed to maintain the strength and integrity of the roof, while also staying watertight, so you don’t need to worry about damage.
What is the SEG scheme?
The Smart Export Guarantee is a scheme that enables you to sell any surplus energy your solar panels produce back to the grid. When your solar PV system is installed you will need to have a smart meter installed at the same time. Once your system is commissioned, you can investigate the current SEG rates being offered and apply to any SEG scheme. Your SEG provider does not have to be your electricity provider. Export rates vary and we’d advise a potential customer to do their research and get the best rate.
