Installation Rates & Costs

For domestic properties interested in reducing their energy costs, a system will typically cost anywhere between £4,000 and £8,500 – although this can vary depending on the size of your property and the type of installation you are interested in. The cost of installation is factored into the cost of the project. However, if required, installation costs can be broken down separately.

How does a solar system benefit your wallet and the planet?

Climate change is a top priority on a global scale now, and the world’s leading scientists have warned us that we need to make drastic changes immediately in order to prevent disaster.

Switching to renewable energy is a highly effective step in the right direction, which avoids reliance on fossil fuels while also saving you money in the process. Solar is one of the most cost-competitive options and generates great returns – most systems break even within 5-7 years.

Combine solar panels with a battery storage solution

Combining your solar PV system with a battery storage solution is an ideal way to leverage further benefits for your home, enabling you to store the solar power your panels produce and controlling your energy more effectively. It provides peace of mind that whatever happens and whatever the season, you’ll have access to cheap, clean energy at all times. And since most homeowners see their energy needs increase in the afternoons and evenings, having energy stored and ready to use is ideal.

Charge your EV from home with solar

Electric vehicle technology is changing all the time, particularly battery capacity, making it a more appealing option for drivers. With more of us switching to electric vehicles to reduce our carbon footprint, having the ability to charge your car at home, and using surplus solar energy for free motoring, via an electric vehicle charging point, is a great way of keeping your transportation cost-effective and emissions-free.

A low maintenance solution

Since you don’t typically need planning permission for home solar PV systems, unless you have a flat roof or your property is a listed building or in a conservation area, they are an easy upgrade to your property that can also add considerable value. Once installed, there’s very little maintenance required – aside from check-ups to ensure the system is working effectively, you shouldn’t need to replace your panels or inverter for 25-30 years.

Meet the Team

How exactly does a solar panel work?

Solar panels work using a simple scientific process, absorbing sunlight through a specialised photovoltaic cell. They then convert this ‘direct current’ energy into a type of usable energy – known as alternating current energy – through the help of an inverter. This AC energy then flows through the home’s electrical panel, distributing it around the home as required.

Can you really save a lot of money with solar panels?

Absolutely! Since you won’t need to rely on using energy from a supplier and can instead produce your own electricity through a renewable format, you can potentially save yourself tons on your energy bill. Plus, by installing a battery-storage system, any surplus energy you don’t use during the day can be stored for use later on or sold back to the national grid for profit.

How many solar panels will I need for my property?

The number of solar panels you need will largely depend on how much energy you’re looking to produce, the size of the building you’re hoping to run and the actual practicalities of having them fitted.

Our team here at Geo Green Power would be more than happy to offer our expertise and recommendations as to how many panels you require though. Simply contact us today to discuss your requirements.

Will I need planning permission to install solar panels at my property?

Answering this question will very much depend on your exact circumstances, as several factors can affect whether you need planning permission or not. For example, if you intend installing a solar PV system onto a listed building or a site designated as a world heritage site, then you will require planning permission.

However, in the case that you do require planning permission, our team at Geo Green Power will help guide you through the process, offering assistance and completing applications on your behalf where possible.

What are the costs involved with installing solar panels?

This is a difficult answer to question as, again, it really depends on your exact circumstances. However, in general, installing solar panels costs somewhere between £4,000 and £6,000 for the average UK household. This covers supply and installation of solar panels, inverter, isolators, cabling, relevant testing, certification and reporting to regularity bodies and your electricity company; basically everything you need.

How long do solar panels typically last?

Solar panels are designed to last decades and, here at Geo Green Power, we take great pride in only installing the best panels available. In fact, we are so confident in the longevity of our solar panels that we are one of only a few companies to offer an extended warranty post-installation. Therefore, if you have any issues, we will come and sort them out for you in no time at all.

Will solar panels cause damage to my roof?

Solar panels are typically mounted to a rail system, which is fixed to your roof. Your solar PV system is specifically designed to maintain the strength and integrity of the roof, while also staying watertight, so you don’t need to worry about damage.

Is my roof suitable for solar panels?

Whether your roof faces south, east or west, it’s possible to have solar panels installed and enjoy the benefits they provide. However, north-facing homes don’t receive as much sunlight and won’t be as efficient as a result. For the best results, the roof of your home should be at a pitch of between 10o and 60o
