Sustainable Living

Situated in Nottinghamshire, Broadleaves Care Home is a purpose-built housing with a care scheme for older people who want to continue living independently. The scheme is a partnership arrangement between Newark and Sherwood District Council and Nottinghamshire County Council, with 20 apartments designated as Housing with Care for people who have been assessed as having support needs.

With ever-increasing energy prices, Newark and Sherwood District Council began looking into options to try to reduce costs.

Choosing to Work with Geo Green Power

Newark and Sherwood District Council agreed that installing solar panels on a few of their larger assets would help offset running costs. They then proceeded to carry out a tendering process to have solar energy installed on Broadleaves Care Home.

The competitive exercise was won by Geo Green Power after we submitted the most competitive price, which, combined with our quality score, gave us the highest overall rating out of the 12 bidders.

Securing the Safety of the Care Home’s Residents

As always, throughout the installation, the health and safety of our employees and customers were our priority. With the building being a care home, our considerate site team worked very carefully to ensure there was as little disruption to the clientele as possible. Our installers also put strict safety measures in place to guarantee that no residents could access the roof area at any time.

Project Manager, Dennis Roxburgh, stated that:

“Working with Geo Green Power was a great experience, the operatives on site were all very amicable and carried out the works in a very timely and professional manner to a very high standard; this included the sub-contractor scaffold company. The office was responsive to any queries and dealt with any issues in a professional manner.”

Results

The 100kWp solar panel system is expected to significantly reduce Broadleaves Care Home’s energy bills. An estimated energy generation of 85,000kWh every year is the equivalent of a Tesla Model 3 driving around the world over 14 times, and, with a saving of 21 tonnes of carbon emissions every year, the care home has also expanded its sustainability credentials.

Reflecting on the positive experience of working with Geo Green Power, Roxburgh recalled that:

“Geo Green Power produced a very good tender response, were very accessible during the works and have kept in contact since completion of the works to make sure all is good. They responded quickly to any issues and have supplied access to a monitoring app which shows generation data.”
