Geo Green Power has partnered with Moto Hospitality to install solar PV systems across 15 UK motorway service stations, including major sites like Rugby and Exeter.
Why Solar?
National motorway service station operators, Moto Hospitality, set ambitious targets to reduce their carbon footprint and energy costs, with renewable energy playing a key role.
Improving the business’s sustainability was a huge goal for Moto. They have actively promoted sustainable travel by investing in EV charging stations, most recently hitting a milestone of installing 1,000 charging sites across its service station network and generating energy onsite to access additional capacity beyond the grid. To take them even closer to carbon neutrality, Moto began seeking solar panels and installation companies via a competitive tendering process.

Selecting Geo Green Power
Geo Green Power won the initial installation job for Moto through a tender involving 12 other companies, and the installation work began soon after. As work progressed, two further sites were added to our schedule. The 15 systems, ranging in size from 35kWp to over 400kWp, will deliver an estimated output of 1,371MWh per annum, and we are providing a 5-year maintenance contract as part of the deal.
The solar panel systems have been installed at Winchester North, Wetherby, Grantham, Pease Pottage, Donnington Park, Stirling, Trowell, Woolley Edge Southbound, Thurrock, Southwaite, Woolley Edge Northbound, Cherwell Valley, Exeter, Sawtry, and Rugby, which has the largest installation of 402kWp. Property Director at Moto, Jess Lockwood, stated that:
“We’re excited to see the positive impact these systems will have.”
James Cunningham, Managing Director of Geo Green Power, added:
“We’re delighted to be working with Moto Hospitality on their journey to net-zero. Our mission extends beyond just helping Moto reduce their emissions; we aim to inspire other businesses to evaluate their environmental footprint and adopt sustainable practices to create a greener future for everyone.”

Results
Each solar installation by Geo Green Power has an immediate impact on emissions, delivering a total reduction of 342 tonnes of CO2 annually, which is the equivalent of taking 68 petrol cars off the road permanently.
“At Moto, we recognise the critical role we play in driving the UK towards a more environmentally friendly and net-zero future. A key element of this is helping the motorway network embrace green energy and renewable solutions. That’s why we chose Geo Green Power – a knowledgeable and trusted expert in the field – to carry out this solar installation across 15 of our sites.”
