Green alternatives to gas boilers

Ground Source Heat Pumps

Ground source heat pumps have experienced a recent surge in interest among commercial operators. Replacing conventional heating and taking advantage of the government’s Renewable Heat Incentive (RHI) schemes, it’s an attractive solution to lower your fuel bills and your carbon emissions.

For more information about the benefits of GSHPs and how to achieve maximum ROI, keep reading.

Air Source Heat Pumps

Even when outside temperatures reach -20, an air source heat pump can efficiently heat radiators, underfloor heating, warm air convectors, and hot water. Air source heat pumps can also be configured to provide air conditioning in warmer months.

With the Government’s Renewable Heat Incentive providing cash payments for eligible installations, installing a heat pump is an attractive investment.

Biomass Boilers

Biomass boilers are an environmentally sound, sustainable heating solution for both residential buildings and commercial premises.

The system is based on burning biomass, e.g. wood pellets or logs, which emits the same amount of carbon dioxide as is absorbed while the plants were growing. That’s why biomass is classed as a carbon neutral renewable heating solution.

Renewable Heating Maintenance

We have a dedicated team of qualified and certified plumbers who install our Ground Source Heat Pumps and Air Source Heating and Biomass boilers.

Whether we fitted your system or not, they are available to service and maintain renewable heating installations throughout the UK on a job by job basis or as part of an ongoing agreement.

Commercial Heat Pumps

Have you been considering an alternative to traditional heating systems for your business? A commercial heat pump may be the solution. An environmentally friendly, cost-effective and low maintenance option; heat pumps offer an attractive investment for businesses, while also helping to reduce your carbon footprint.

Alternatives to Renewable Heat Incentive

While applications for the Renewable Heat Incentive scheme are now closed, the scheme has been replaced with the Boiler Upgrade Scheme. This grant was launched by the government in May 2022 and will run for three years until 2025. It is designed to help homeowners fund the upgrade of their heating systems to low-carbon options, whether that’s a biomass boiler, ground source heat pump or an air source heat pump.

The grant offers up to £6,000 and forms part of the government’s plans to reduce carbon emissions to net zero by 2050. The scheme was originally called the Clean Heat Grant but was amended in October 2021 to The Boiler Upgrade Scheme or BUS. The scheme covers air-source heat pumps, ground-source heat pumps and biomass boilers.

Find out more about how the BUS incentive can be used to maximise ROI and reduce your carbon footprint.

Renewable heating installation

With the BUS incentive providing cash payments for eligible installations, a heat pump or a biomass boiler is an attractive investment for property owners.

Read on to find out if your property is suitable for a renewable heating solution.

Am I eligible for the Boiler Upgrade Scheme?

BUS grants are available to exist homeowners in England and Wales, including private landlords. In these instances, it can only be used for the replacement of fossil fuel heating systems, such as gas, oil or direct electric heating systems.

You’ll need a valid Energy Performance Certificate for the property and no outstanding recommendations for loft or cavity wall insulation to apply. The reason for this is that the heating system will work more efficiently with these measures in place.

Some new build properties are eligible. In order to be able to claim a self build must have been built mainly using the labour or resources of the first owner and not have been owned by a business or organisation.
