Whether you are looking to transition a home or a business to low-carbon heating, our expert team delivers end-to-end support to ensure your system performs at its peak.

BUS scheme grant to increase to £9,000 for people transitioning from oil to heat pumps

Boiler Upgrade Scheme (BUS) Grant

The Boiler Upgrade scheme is a government-backed scheme for installing a heat pump. The owner of the system gets a voucher for up to £7500 towards the cost of the install if a fossil fuel heat source is being replaced or if the property has never had a heating system.

Geo Green Power claims on the eligible customer’s behalf and manages the process throughout.

Following recent energy price volatility, the UK Government has officially announced an increase in the Boiler Upgrade Scheme (BUS) grant. Effective immediately, households replacing oil or LPG boilers can now access £9,000 in funding, up from the previous £7,500.

Our Offer: To help you make the leap, Geo Green Power is offering a £500 credit toward your conversion when you switch from oil to a heat pump with us.

Benefits & Considerations for Premium ASHP Installation

Environmental Impact & Net Zero

Air Source Heat Pumps represent a major step toward sustainable living. By extracting heat from the outside air, they produce significantly fewer carbon emissions than traditional fossil fuel systems. Switching to an ASHP allows households and businesses to drastically reduce their carbon footprint, directly supporting national Net Zero targets.

Government Grants: The Boiler Upgrade Scheme (BUS)

To accelerate the transition to low-carbon heating, the UK Government provides substantial financial support through the Boiler Upgrade Scheme (BUS).

  • Standard Grant: Most homeowners replacing a fossil fuel system are eligible for £7,500 toward an ASHP.
  • Oil & LPG Uplift: In response to recent energy market volatility, the grant has been increased to £9,000 for households specifically replacing oil or LPG boilers.
  • Eligibility: This funding is available for existing homes and small non-domestic buildings, as well as self-build properties.

Long-Term Financial Investment

While the initial installation of a premium ASHP is higher than a conventional boiler, it is a strategic long-term investment. Due to their high seasonal efficiency and lower maintenance requirements, ASHPs offer excellent cost-effectiveness over a long lifespan (typically 15–20 years). They also protect users from the price shocks often associated with imported fossil fuels.

Future-Proofing New Builds & Renovations

As energy standards evolve, low-carbon heating is becoming the benchmark for modern property. Incorporating an ASHP ensures compliance with increasingly stringent building regulations and sustainability standards. For developers and self-builders, installing a heat pump now avoids the need for expensive retrofitting in the future and adds significant value to the property.

Is Your Property Suitable for an ASHP?

While there are many excellent reasons to choose an Air Source Heat Pump (ASHP) for your property, several factors determine whether your home is ready for an optimal installation:

Insulation

For an ASHP to operate at peak efficiency, your property must be well-insulated. Heat pumps work best by maintaining a consistent temperature over a longer period; therefore, owners of older or less efficient properties may need to consider insulation upgrades, such as loft or cavity wall insulation, prior to installation to meet efficiency standards.

Current Fuel Source

While properties with access to mains gas are perfectly suitable for an ASHP, the most significant financial return on investment is typically seen when switching from high-cost fossil fuels like oil or LPG, or from inefficient electric heating systems. With the recent increase in the Boiler Upgrade Scheme (BUS) grant to £9,000 for oil and LPG replacements, the transition has never been more cost-effective.

Planning Permission

In the vast majority of cases, Air Source Heat Pump installations fall under Permitted Development, meaning they do not require formal planning permission. This is provided the installation complies with standard criteria regarding noise levels and placement. Our team can help you verify that your specific project meets these requirements.

Heat Emitters (Radiators & Underfloor Heating)

ASHPs achieve maximum efficiency when paired with low-flow temperature emitters. Underfloor heating is often considered the ideal solution, but traditional radiators are also compatible. However, your existing radiators will need to be carefully assessed; in some cases, they may need to be replaced with larger units to ensure they effectively heat your home at the ASHP’s lower, more efficient operating temperatures.

The Air Source Heat Pump Installation Process

The installation of an Air Source Heat Pump (ASHP) is a streamlined procedure, typically requiring about five working days from initial setup to final commissioning. Because ASHPs do not require extensive groundworks, the timeline is significantly shorter than ground source alternatives and is comparable to fitting a modern gas or oil boiler.

Our expert installation team manages every stage of the process:

External Unit Placement

The compact ASHP unit, approximately 1 meter wide, 1 meter high, and 30 centimeters deep, is installed on the exterior of your property. It is secured to the ground or wall using specialised brackets and positioned to ensure optimal airflow and easy access for future servicing.

Internal Connections

Once the external unit is secure, it is connected to a hot water cylinder inside your home. Depending on your current system setup, integration with the water tank can often be completed with minimal disruption to your property.

Heat Emitter Assessment

A crucial part of the installation involves assessing your radiators or underfloor heating. Because ASHPs operate at a lower flow temperature to maximise efficiency, larger radiator units may be recommended to replace existing models, ensuring your home stays perfectly warm even on the coldest days.

Ongoing Maintenance

ASHP systems generally require less ongoing maintenance than traditional fossil fuel systems due to their design and fewer moving parts. To ensure your system continues to run at optimum efficiency and provides reliable, low-cost heating, we recommend a simple annual service.

ASHP Installation Costs

There are lots of variables influencing the price of heat pumps, and every install has to be priced individually. Below is a table displaying the approximate prices different-sized installs would cost. Please note that these prices don’t include the BUS (Boiler Upgrade Scheme) grant of £7,500.

Size of install Estimated cost
Small £10,000
Medium £12,000
Large £20,000

We recommend an annual service of an air source system every twelve months to ensure it’s operating as efficiently as possible. Some manufacturers will ask for up-to-date service records in the event of a warranty claim. The servicing starts from £275+VAT.

A Geo Green Power ASHP Installation Case Study

When Paul moved into his home in East Leake he discovered that the best option for replacing the 45-year-old oil boiler was an air-source heat pump. Paul carefully compared the cost of replacing the old oil boiler with an up-to-date condensing oil boiler or an air source heat pump system. He found that thanks to the Renewable Heat Incentive scheme, the installation costs were almost identical, and the heat pump would deliver lower running costs and have a much more positive environmental impact.

Heat Pump Servicing & Maintenance with Geo Green Power

Geo Green Power provides comprehensive service and maintenance for all renewable heating systems, ensuring the efficiency and longevity of your investment. Whether we installed your system or you are looking for a more reliable service partner, our nationwide team is here to help.
