Domestic Solar Panel Components
As with all technology whether itโs a new car or a new washing machine, if you want it to last itโs worth making sure you are buying from a reputable manufacturer. This is the same with Domestic Solar Panels. Always ask what Domestic Solar Panels and inverter you are being quoted for in advance and check to ensure your getting equipment that will last.
Here at Geo Green Power we only install the highest quality Domestic Solar Panel systems and components with some of the best guarantees in the industry. Due to our long standing relationships with our suppliers and manufacturers we are able to offer some of the most competitive rates on the market.
Solar Panel Components
As with all technology whether itโs a new car or a new washing machine, if you want it to last, its worth making sure you are buying from a reputable manufacturer. This is the same with Solar PV, always ask what panels and inverter you are being quoted for in advance and check these out to ensure your getting equipment that will last.
Solar Panels
The photovoltaic (PV) process converts sunlight into electricity. A Photovoltaic cell consists of two or more thin layers of semiconducting material, most commonly silicon. When the cell is exposed to light, electrical charges are generated and this can be conducted away by metal contacts as direct current (DC). The electrical output from a single cell is small, therefore multiple cells are connected together to provide a more useful output. Cells connected in this way are encapsulated (usually behind glass) to form a weatherproof module or panel. Individual panels are then interconnected to form strings.

Grid Tie Inverters
These work by taking the DC power from the source, such as an array of photovoltaic modules (typically 250 to 600 volts DC) , and inverting it to AC power so it can be fed into the grid. The inverter must also synchronize its frequency with that of the grid (e.g. 50 Hz) and limit the voltage to no higher than the grid voltage. Typical modern GTIโs have a fixed unity power factor, which means its output voltage and current are generally lined up, and its phase angle is within 1 degree of the AC power grid. The inverter has an on board computer which senses the current AC grid waveform, and output a voltage to correspond with the grid.
Grid-tie inverters are also designed to quickly disconnect from the grid if the utility grid goes down. This is a G83 requirement that ensures that in the event of a blackout, the grid tie inverter will shut down to prevent the energy it produces from harming any line workers who are sent to fix the power grid.

Export Meter
Currently it is assumed by the supplier that you will sell 50% of what you generate to the grid (called your โdeemed exportโ) and they will usually send you a cheque every quarter based on this assumption (Which is actually rather generous on most domestic installs). If you do think that you will end up selling more than half of what you generate, some energy companies will install an export meter free of charge and others for a fee. Either way you will need to talk to them or us to arrange.
