What are the costs of commercial solar panels?
Installing solar panels for a business comes with varying costs, depending on specific circumstances
Roof material is a key determinant of installation costs. Metal roofs, which are easy to adapt for solar panels, are the least expensive option.
Safety measures are at the heart of every project. Detailed access and scaffold plans account for your property's unique challenges, which can influence costs.
Electrical system upgrades may be unavoidable if your building's infrastructure is outdated. These updates, though necessary, are transparently detailed in your quote.
High-grade solar components, including panels and inverters from trusted manufacturers, offer extended warranties and lasting performance. These product choices play a crucial role in determining the system's cost.

Complete Renewable Energy for Business
As leading commercial solar PV installers for Southampton, we provide a holistic approach to energy that goes beyond the roof.
Grants and Financial Incentives
Southampton businesses can access a robust range of financial support to accelerate their transition to renewable energy. Through Southampton City Council sustainability initiatives and regional decarbonisation funds, such as those often supported by the Solent LEP (Local Enterprise Partnership), eligible SMEs can frequently find match-funded grants designed to support energy-efficiency upgrades.
Furthermore, the UK government’s Annual Investment Allowance (AIA) and Full Expensing schemes allow companies to deduct 100% of the cost of commercial solar panels in Southampton from their taxable profits in the first year. When combined with ongoing revenue from the Smart Export Guarantee (SEG), these incentives transform commercial solar Southampton into a high-yield financial asset for local enterprises.

FAQs for solar panels in Southampton
Where Can You Install Solar Panels?
Do I need Planning Permission?
- A roof mounted solar installation must not protrude more than 200mm, unless it is a flat roof installation where the solar PV must be less than 1m above the highest part of the flat roof.
- A roof mounted solar installation must be further than 1m away from the edge of the roof or wall joint. For AONB or similarly restricted locations, the panels must not be on the roof slope or wall facing the road.
- Solar installations should be sited so as to minimise their effect on the external appearance of the property and the amenity of the area, while unused equipment should be removed as soon as possible.
