Why renewable energy?
Geo Green Power were appointed by North West Leicestershire District Council to deliver a renewable energy solution at Whitwick and Coalville Leisure Centre, operated by Everyone Active. The project supports the councilโs ongoing target to reduce carbon emissions and energy costs, with funding secured through Sport England.
By installing a solar PV and battery storage system for the facility, Whitwick and Coalville Leisure Centre are significantly enhancing their sustainability credentials and decreasing their utility costs.
Working with our team
Following a successful competitive tender process through the Fusion21 Framework, Geo Green Power were selected to complete the project.
The installation was delivered within a live, busy and public-facing environment, and our careful site team adapted to the challenges that accompanied this. We also ensured that the leisure centre remained fully operational throughout the project with disruption kept to a minimum.
As the project was funded by Sport England, a tight deadline was set in place and our team acted efficiently to complete this system with days to spare. Since essential electrical works required a full site powerdown, our dedicated installers completed these works out of hours to avoid impacting centre operations.
Everyone Activeโs Leisure Services Team Manager, was very pleased with our efforts, stating that: โWe all thought the Geo Green Power team were excellent to work with. Work was completely efficiently and weโre very happy with the install.โ
The sustainable results
The completed solar PV and battery storage system is estimated to generate 157,100kWh of energy annually and now provides a secure, clean source of electricity for Whitwick and Coalville Leisure Centre. Carbon emissions will also be reduced by 40 tonnes every year, which is the equivalent to taking 8 petrol cars off the road permanently. The inclusion of battery storage ensures that excess renewable energy is captured and used during peak demand periods, delivering some of the further operational savings and environmental benefits.
