Client Feedback โAt M&B PLC, we ensure that all our energy is generated from renewable sources - this has made a significant impact on our emissions but did not protect us from recent price increases. During 2023 we began a programme to install solar to a significant number of our freehold properties which have the potential for a roof top solar installation. Weโre looking to generate over 20% of all the energy we use ourselves and reduce our overall energy costs.โ โ Ian Reeley, Head of Building Development City Division & Sustainability Solar PV Development at Mitchells & Butlers.

Investing for the future
Since forming in 1896, Mitchells & Butlers have grown to become the leading restaurant and pub company in the UK. With over 1700 businesses, including All Bar One, Miller & Carter and Toby Carvery, Mitchells & Butlers has called last orders on fossil fuels by rolling out solar photovoltaic systems across its estate.
M&B want to increase sustainability and reduce energy costs on their journey to Net Zero, implementing a sustainability strategy in 2019. Alongside commitments to the local communities they serve and responsibly sourcing their products, targets include Net Zero by 2040, Zero Operational Waste to landfill by 2030 and 50% less food waste by 2030.
M&B is working with Edge Property Services and Geo Green Power to coordinate the design and install of solar PV across the estate.

Working with Geo Green Power
Each commercial installation takes our dedicated Geo Green team between 1 to 5 days depending on the size of the system. Careful planning of site access ensures that the pubs stay open for business throughout the installation process with very little impact to guests or staff. Each solar PV installation is designed and planned to meet the specific needs of the site.
James Cunningham, Managing Director, Geo Green Power: โWeโre delighted to be working with M&B and supporting their pubs to become more sustainable and reduce their energy bills. Modern renewable systems have become even more efficient in recent years and at the same time, installation costs have reduced. Coupled with mounting evidence of the damage done by fossil fuels, and increases in energy costs, the calculations for businesses have improved even further and renewables make more sense than ever.โ
Delivering results
At the end of 2024 we had successfully completed 60 installations for M&B. The installed projects equate to a total of 1,859kWp and will reduce CO2 emissions by 395 tonnes annually (the equivalent of taking 79 cars off the road). The installations are diverse, varying in size from 20kWp – 60kWp, with a mix of both pitched and flat roofs.
By choosing to partner with Geo Green Power, Mitchells & Butlers have shown a commitment to sustainable practices, and weโre delighted to be helping them on their journey to becoming Net Zero!
